6 tips to get the most out of your natural deodorant (and some gotchas!)

Hello there! If you’re reading this, chances are you’re new to Woohoo. Hurrah :)

If you’re switching from a traditional deodorant or antiperspirant you’ll very quickly see that deodorant pastes are a different kettle of fish, so here are our tips to help you get the very most out of your new all natural deodorant paste.

(Woohoo to that!)

Tip #1 - It’s OK to touch your underarms

This might sound like a no-brainer to you, but some people find touching your underarms a bit strange (gross even!). The good news is that touching your underarms is totally OK and something you’ll soon get used to :) The added bonus is that you get to check in with your lymph nodes and notice any abnormalities.

Tip #2 - Less is more!

Working out today? Or is it going to be especially hot? Stressful day at work? DON’T fall into the trap of using lots of Woohoo, because you don’t need it. Not only do you not need it, using too much could end up in having it rub off onto your clothes. A pea sized amount is all you need, and please remember to rub it in just like a moisturiser.Click here for our video demo of how to apply your Woohoo.

Tip #3 - Keep it cool (under 30 degrees)

Mother nature is wonderful, but can sometimes play games with us by warming up your Woohoo a bit too much. When your Woohoo gets too hot and then cools its texture can change, stopping it from being super smooth (especially if this happens multiple times). Please keep your Woohoo in a cool, dry place and on a *really* hot day, you can even pop it in the fridge!

Pssst - got an issue with a Woohoo that is no longer super smooth due to getting too hot in the mail? Let us know :)

Tip #4 - It MIGHT not work right away

Patience is a virtue and sometimes it’s totally necessary, especiallyif you’re switching from an antiperspirant. You see, antiperspirants use aluminium salts to block your pores and stop you from sweating, which can result in a build-up of toxins. On the other hand, your Woohoo supports your body’s natural sweating process and lets you rid your body of toxins. This means it *may* seem like you’re sweating more and smelling worse at first. Stick with it. IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT :) :)

Tip #5 - Patch test first

Even though our deodorant is 100% natural, there’s still a (albeit slight!) possibility that you may react to it, as we do use essential oils and shea butter in some of our flavours. Also, our Woohoo is slightly alkaline (this stops bacteria from thriving, which stops the irksome body odour!). Both of these things mean you should do a small patch test on your skin first before going gung-ho (in moderation - remember tip #2).

Do you have a latex sensitivity? Shea butter is closely related to latex so this is important for you.

Tip #6 - Some housekeeping

Did you know it’s not actually your sweat that smells, but the bacteria munching on your sweat? (ewwww!). When you first start using Woohoo, it might be worth doing some laundry and giving all of your clothes a good clean, focusing on the underarm area so you can start totally fresh and bacteria free. And you know those yellow marks you can’t seem to escape? That’s probably from aluminium in your old antiperspirant or the proteins in your sweat. We’ve got some great tips from getting rid of those stains here.
