Hot off the press – Big news in beauty

  • 3 min read

Our email inboxes are ALWAYS overflowing but it is partly self-inflicted. Aaron has emails coming in from tonnes of sites to keep his finger on the pulse with what’s going down in beauty products town.

Here are some of the hot stories that have come across our desktop recently.

Hot Trend: Superfoods for skin

You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn’t know of superfoods and how popular they are. Kale, quinoa, chia and teff are now as common as potatoes, peas and carrots.

Superfoods are now taking off in the natural skincare world with rates of new product development tripling in recent years. It’s easy to see why. Superfoods are seen as healthy, nutrient-dense and anti-oxidant rich ingredients.

Woohoo Skincare has been tapping into the Australian native so-called superfoods for a few years now. Kakadu plum, Quandong, Flame tree and Emu apple are just some of the ones we use. There are plenty more with the hardest part choosing which ones.

But don’t forget that common fruit and vegs (the original superfoods) are awesome as as well. Things like pineapple, green tea, blueberry and raspberry are not to be overlooked – even though they’re far from exotic sounding. Pineapple is a star in our new hand and foot cream (more on that coming in the next few weeks!), and green tea is a powerhouse in our Pig In Mud Mineral Mask.

Australia to Ban Animal Testing

Woohoo! This has been brewing over the last 12 months and it now appears that Labor, Liberal and the Greens are all behind it. Hopefully by July next year Australia will join the EU, Norway, New Zealand, Israel, Turkey and India and ban cosmetic animal testing.

Any new product or ingredient will be banned if animal testing has been done. But there won’t be a black hole on store shelves as the new law will only apply to new products. Existing products and ingredients will still be allowed.

Choose Cruelty Free Australia provides the following advice:

Consumers may be lulled into a false sense of security that all companies producing cosmetics, toiletries or household cleaning products will soon be cruelty-free.

This is not the case.

As consumers, it is now even more important to support companies that are accredited as cruelty-free, and use the Choose Cruelty Free List as a valued resource.

We’ve been accredited by Choose Cruelty Free for a few years now, and can definitely vouch that they’re incredibly thorough in making sure their brands are totally cruelty free.

If you’d like to learn more about what’s going on with animal testing in Australia (because as of June 2016 it IS still legal), read our other blog post here.

Woohoo Skincare is moving!

OK, so this news didn’t come to us as some of the beauty industry’s hottest news, but we think it’s pretty major

After WAY too much time trawling through real estate websites and viewing properties, Woohoo Skincare has found a new home.

We have outgrown being a home-based business – climbing over boxes to get to the dinner table has lost its novelty! So we’re setting up a new Happy pad. It will be complete with new awesome manufacturing area so we can keep pumping out the good stuff and prevent the dreaded ‘out of stock’ notification.

It will also have a little shopfront so you can drop in and pick up some goodies. Perfect for fellow Novocastrians and anyone who is visiting Newcastle or the Hunter Valley.

Once we’ve finished setting it all up (fingers crossed in the next 2 months) we will reveal the address and share some pictures of the journey. As a bit of a teaser, we’ll be in Adamstown… !
